Afro-Latinos have helped shape the music in America, many times with help from other cultures. Many types of music Hispanics have produced have impacted the United States. One of these types of music is named Bachata. Hispanics in the US have helped shape bachata, even though it originated in the Dominican Republic. With its profound lyrics many can relate to, its catchy rhythm and simple dance, bachata is as popular in the US as it is in Central America.

It was not only the United States and Europe that were touched by Modernism; Latin America was also feeling the effect of this shift in the art world during the beginning of the 20th century. While beginning to achieve some level of independence from its European occupiers, Latin American and its artists were embracing Modernism which fit well with the mixed race cultures of this region. One of the artists discussed in this paper is Diego Rivera who was a champion of these native peoples. The two paintings have a similar appearance which suggests that Rivera was affected by the time he spent in Europe studying Cubism. He may have also be influenced by his friendship with Picasso. They both seem comfortable deconstructing their subject matter into simpler forms in much the way that modern science.
